Ballroom dance: American Style Tango 2
The American Style Tango 2
When walking forward, the
movements are usually curved gradually to the
left, thus the left foot forward walk is with a
contra body movement, whereas the right foot
forward walk is done with the right side leading
movement.
Backwards walks usually
curve gradually to the left also, thus the right
foot backward walk is done with the contra body
movement, whereas the left foot backward walk is
done with a left side leading movement.
The dance position of the Tango involves a
modified dance hold and is more compact than a
closed position ballroom hold. In Tango the man
and woman are slightly apart, which causes the
man's right arm to be around the woman's back
and the fingers of his right hand are across her
spine.
The woman will hook her left forearm underneath
the man's elbow and upper arm as her wrist is
positioned underneath his arm. (It may or may
not be in contact.) Her palm will face inward
with her fingers reaching his torso.
Then the man's left hand and the woman's right
hand will be joined together at the woman's eye
level to form an upper-hand clasp. The elbows
will be at an acute angle as the man's left
elbow and woman's right elbow will be held
somewhat high.
These movements may sound a bit complicated on
paper, but when you position yourselves in this
manner, it will start to feel natural and you
will have a fun, and lively, time dancing to the
beat of the Tango music.
