Ballroom dance instructor
Tips on selecting a ballroom
dance instructor
It is very important to
choose a dance instructor that is right for you.
After all, if you do not like your dance
instructor, or find that you are not learning
anything, you will not want to continue with
dance. You need to make sure that the dance
instructor is qualified. Many dance studios hire
teachers than may be proficient in one type of
dance, such as ballet, but who are not qualified
to teach dances such as ballroom or tap, but may
teach them anyway. It should be verified that
the dance teacher is well-qualified in the type
of dance you wish to pursue and that he or she
has a good reputation, and that the studio has
excellent conditions for dance.
Some instructors will offer a free dance lesson,
or you may just want to watch a dance class when
it is in session. Either way, it may be a good
indicator of whether or not you would like to
pursue the class.
The best method in which to start looking for a
qualified dance instructor may be word-of-mouth.
Do you know a friend, or friend of a friend who
takes dance lessons? If so, he or she probably
knows enough about the various teachers to give
you a heads up on which dance instructors are
competent and which instructors truly enjoy
teaching dance. It helps if the instructor is
excitied about his craft and takes pleasure in
teaching it to other people. Take the initiative
to ask a potential instructor for his or her
resume that includes entries such as credentials
and professional tests that he may have taken,
also certifications, as well as his level of
status for teaching dance. If the instructor has
a good background, as far as his experience and
credentials, it is a good indication that he is
competent in his craft and enjoys teaching
others how to enjoy dance.
