Ballroom dance Shoes fit
Getting the Right Fit for
your Ballroom dance shoes
Since one foot is generally
larger than the other, you must try on both the
right and left dance shoes. All portions of the
shoes must cover your feet. Also, keep in mind
that dance shoes should be slightly smaller than
your regular street shoes. The reason for this
is that the shoes need to fit snugly so that
proper balance can be maintained, although the
shoes should not fit so tight that they hurt
your feet. You will not be able to control your
balance or dance posture if your feet move
easily inside your shoes.
With men's and women's closed-toes styles of
dance shoes, the toes must be as close to the
ends as possible without actually rubbing the
ends. With the sandal dance shoes, the toes must
totally cover the soles of the shoes. In fact,
it is best if the toes actually hang over the
edges of the shoes by up to 1/4 inch. You will
need to purchase new shoes if they have
stretched so much that your feet slip inside
them. When your feet are able to move inside
your dance shoes, the quicker the shoes will
stretch, get out of shape or totally wear out.
Leather shoes should be polished often and
regularly so that they don't look scuffed. In
order to keep your shoes from accumulating wax
and dirt from the dance floors, you will need to
brush them often. (This is especially true with
suede dance shoes.) Wax buildup and dirt
particles from the floor are attracted to the
soft suede soles which cause them to wear out.
For patent leather shoes, polish them with a
silicone oil to keep them from cracking and
sticking.
Do Not wear your dance shoes outside as they
should be for dancing purposes only. They will
wear out extremely fast and not function as well
if you wear them outside. Dancing shoes are a
vital part of your dance attire, and should only
be used as such.
