Tips to become a better dancer

There are three main elements that you need to be aware of in order to become a skillful and self-confident dancer. These elements include: expert instruction; practice; and frequent use of what you have learned. Your classes should include an adequate amount of all three elements in order for you to succeed at this new activity you have chosen. If the program does not include those elements, you are probably wasting your time, as well as your money.

First of all, you need to find a dance instructor with a good reputation, who knows his or her craft and how to teach it. Make sure that the teaching methods of the dance instructor are in line with your goals and aspirations in becoming a good social dancer. It is also important that you have a good rapport with the instructor.

You need to do your part too in order for this activity to be successful. Take 15 minutes or so each day to focus on and practice what you have learned, or are learning in your dance class. You will need to focus both your mind and body on performing the figures that you have learned in order to reinforce the learning process.

By practicing your dance moves, it will also provide you with the confidence to proceed to a social dance situation. You should also attend a social dance about once a week to put into practice the skills you have learned. After all, as the old saying goes, “If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it.” Therefore, practice, practice, practice. However, don’t expect perfection overnight. It takes a lot of practice and you should have fun while learning and practicing. It won’t be long before dancers of the opposite sex will be anxious to dance with you, and you can enjoy dancing with a great deal of confidence.
