Ballroom dancing Start 2
Cont: Getting Started: Ballroom
dancing fun and tips
You are probably wondering
how you can get started as a social dancer. Many
cities and towns have dance chapters that you
can contact in order to obtain information on
various social dances and classes in your area.
Just give one of the dance chapters a call and
someone should be happy to assist you and get
you started in a ballroom dance class, and most
likely, one that will not cost much to join.
Many chapters will have social dances throughout
the year and quite often will provide a free
dance lesson. Other chapters have weekly classes
designed for beginners, which are excellent
places to meet other new dancers. You will
obtain great dance instruction and will soon be
strutting your stuff out on the dance floor with
the other ballroom dancers.
Dance organizations usually provide newsletters
to inform you of upcoming events, dance classes
and names of independent dance instructors.
If you do not find a dance chapter in your area,
check out colleges that may provide ballroom
dance classes. Recreational departments,
community centers, YMCA's, Elks or Moose Lodges
are some of the other groups that may offer
dance lessons to their members or guests. Many
of those groups have dances on a regular basis
as well.
Also search the entertainment section of your
local newspaper for a calendar of events in your
area. The opportunities to get involved in dance
and dance classes are out there, you just need
to look. If you have the funds to do so, and are
interested, there may be a local commercial
dance studio in your area that will arrange
private lessons for you, or perhaps you and a
partner or friend. This could be lessons, either
private or group, on a regular basis or even
just a one time lesson. You can probably find
someone, if not personally, maybe a friend, or a
friend of a friend, who is involved in dance and
can point you in the right direction. Once you
get started in dance, you will find it a fun and
enjoyable way to stay in shape, learn new
skills, and connect with other people who share
your interests.
